Automated control of window production

April 2010 Industrial Computer Hardware

Open and freely scalable automation technology enhances machine efficiency and creates competitive advantages.

Beckhoff presented its PC – and EtherCAT – based automation solutions for the window production industry at FensterbauFrontale 2010, one of the leading trade shows for windows, doors and façades, in Nuremberg. With PC Control Beckhoff offers a versatile and integrated control platform for automating the whole process chain of window, door and façade production, ranging from profile cutting to stacking of the finished elements.

Beckhoff has been supplying control equipment to the window production industry for almost 30 years and has extensive expertise covering the whole window production process. Numerous application examples that have already been implemented in the sector demonstrate that automation technology from Beckhoff can significantly increase the productivity and flexibility of window production machines. PC-based control technology can be used to control and monitor all processing steps including profile cutting, cut optimisation, bar processing (drilling, milling, screwing etc), welding and trimming, seal insertion, installation of fittings in frames or casements, and stacking.

With high-performance Industrial PCs, EtherCAT I/Os, a wide range of fieldbus components, cutting-edge servo drive technology and the TwinCAT NC I and CNC automation software, Beckhoff offers machine manufacturers an integrated, modular control concept that is suitable for all processes encountered in window production. The scalability of the Beckhoff hardware and software components enables customised solutions for individual machining centres as well as for whole production lines with an unlimited number of axes and I/O points. Compared with conventional control systems the Beckhoff solution offers scope for significant cost reductions, combined with process optimisation.

In addition, the openness of the PC-based control platform offers interfaces for connecting a wide range of application and customer specific peripheral equipment and systems such as scanners and databases.
