Miniature reliable power supplies

March 2010 Electrical Power & Protection

MEAN WELL’s new generation HRP-100 series miniature power supplies with high reliability, low power consumption and active PFC have been introduced. The addition of the 100 W enclosed type units expands the wattage selection (75-600 W) the company can offer to system designers who have a requirement for low no-load power consumption.

The HRP(G) families are the most advanced enclosed type power supplies in the MEAN WELL product range to date. Featuring high operating efficiency, miniaturisation, and low no-load power consumption (<0,5 W), HRP-100 has been reduced in size by 25% compared to other ranges and the warranty extended from 3 to 5 years.

HRP-100’s modern circuit design has enabled efficiencies up to 90% using only free air cooling from -30 to 60°C. The built-in active PFC function allows these new units to operate from 85-264 VAC input while fulfilling the harmonic current requirements of EN61000-3-2. In addition, they can also withstand a 300 VAC input surge for 5 seconds, which helps prevent damage caused by unstable AC mains inputs. Other standard functions include remote ON/OFF control, protection for short circuit, overload (constant current mode), over-voltage and over-temperature (optional).

The low no-load power consumption (<0,5 W) allows designers to conform to the ErP (Energy-related Product) requirements of end user systems. Suitable applications include factory automation, LED display, test and measurement equipment and high efficiency electrical or mechanical equipment.
