Italian elevator manufacturer chooses Control Techniques for ‘Special’ range.
Bologna-based Sele is Italy’s premier independent elevator company with products ranging from hydraulic installations to systems especially suitable for buildings with a high pedestrian traffic level. For customers seeking a simple, yet versatile product that uses significantly less energy, Sele has created the Special range. This has no need of a machine room, which is replaced instead by a control panel that is positioned outside the lift shaft, saving space in the building and simplifying maintenance. When choosing a drive partner, Sele looked for a high flexibility and versatile drive and a drive company with experience in gearless elevator systems. Sele chose Control Techniques and insisted on Unidrive SP AC drives to provide the control for its Special range.
The facility to configure Unidrive SP as an open or closed-loop vector control, with or without encoder, and as a servo drive (for brushless motors) makes the drive suitable for all types of installation. The Unidrive SP offers additional safety features too. In this context, the possibility of feeding the power section of Unidrive SP with a low voltage DC supply (48-96 VDC) makes it possible to return the car to the nearest floor by battery power alone, in the event of a power outage or other emergency. For absolute safety during maintenance, the drive’s secure disable feature ensures that the system is completely disabled.
The Sele solution utilises motor management with encoder feedback control for a typical system speed of 1 m/sec. Positioning of the car at the floor during normal operation is performed in the traditional manner, using shaft sensor signals acquired by the controller, which instructs the Unidrive SP to perform a deceleration ramp followed by a stop. The brake is controlled by a specific function integrated in the Unidrive SP firmware.
The result is a lift that can reach higher speeds than a standard hydraulic installation, whilst maintaining significantly lower energy consumption – a versatile solution that suits any kind of building – residential, private or public. What is more, it is whisper-quiet with virtually no vibration, giving a very high quality of ride.
This is an ideal solution for existing buildings that have no suitable space for a traditional installation, the single-phase version, driven by a 220 V Unidrive SP and connected directly to a standard domestic electrical outlet is particularly innovative and cost-effective in terms of power consumption, giving energy savings of around 70% compared to hydraulic systems.
