Adroit teams up with a well known agricultural enterprise.
Adroit recently started a project with a well known large agricultural enterprise in Mpumalanga, that supplies around 15% of the South African market with bananas. The total SA banana market is approximately 250 000 tons annually based on an average of 25 tons per hectare with 10 000 hectares presently under banana plantations. The estate has had a significant impact on the regional socio-economic conditions and is a large-scale employer in the agricultural sector in Mpumalanga. When looking for a scada solution it turned to Adroit Technologies to fulfil its monitoring and control system needs. Adroit Technologies supplied Adroit SCADA along with the VIZNET Information Portal solution as a platform to achieve a business-wide solution. The VIZNET Portal provided a platform that enabled the estate to safely monitor and control its systems from a central point, which helped save time and energy as the plants and control points were widely spread over hundreds of kilometres.
The enterprise also experienced some theft problems at its remote irrigation pump houses where various items were stolen, including pumps and batteries. Using the implemented Adroit system and the Adroit Notify and Command Agent it now has alarms at each plant house and should any disturbances occur, the associated farm manager would be notified immediately via SMS. Client connections are also made easier as the VIZNET software ensures secure realtime client connections over the Internet, without losing any monitoring and control functionality. Recent project developments include monitoring and control of the systems at the plant where bananas are weighed before they are packaged and distributed.
