Festo reports on training

December 2009 Training & Education

The financial crisis has prompted bipolar responses from companies regarding training. Some have reduced training expenditure in line with reduced capital expenditure, while others have increased training in a focus on up-skilling, maintenance reliability and lean production.

This is borne out by the experience of Festo Didactic which this year has seen a marked increase in basic technology training while the more advanced courses have reduced. The demographics of customers have shown a predominance of those with a long-term view of building their company’s competitive advantages. In response, the selection of courses on offer have been changed to suit, increasing the number of basic courses and adapting the delivery of the advanced courses to help implement sustainable productivity improvements on existing machinery.

Particularly in the field of instrumentation and control, the courses focus on the two leading cost and reliability drivers of a plant: the practical implementation, calibration and trouble-shooting of field instruments and control valves; and the hands-on application of PID closed loop control and loop tuning.
