Metso valves focus on all major energy and hydrocarbon applications from refineries to LNG plants, and from cryogenic temperatures to extremely high temperatures and really high pressures. However, the constant search for increased reliability, safety and efficiency means that industry’s requirements are becoming more stringent every day – culminating in bigger pipe sizes, higher temperatures and higher pressures. It is in this area of the market that MAPAG comes into the picture to meet these new requirements.
The reason for developing MAPABLOC was due to customers’ increasing demands. The constant need for better efficiency drives the process to higher temperatures, larger sizes and longer up time intervals. Therefore, in ethylene crackers which are located in almost every refinery, the cracked gas transfer line valves were put under the spotlight. The problem with the line is that it has to be cleaned every third month to get rid of the accumulated coke. This is done by letting air into the line which, under these temperatures, generates a heavy fire to burn the accumulated coke away. This is, of course, a high safety risk for the rest of the plant and makes high demands on the shut-off valve.
