Compact laser sensors

Jan 2000 Sensors & Transducers

Baluff's laser sensors use brilliant red light, offer an extended operating distance and can switch at high frequencies. Conforming to protection class 2 means that no special safety precautions are necessary.

Using its focused red sensing spot, the BOS 26K-PA-1LHB diffuse sensor (with background suppression) can precisely detect very small objects between 30 and 150 mm away, virtually regardless of colour. Nearby objects, even in the close background, are ignored by the sensor - as the focusing function provides a spot only 0,1 mm in diameter at a distance of 80 mm.

The retroreflective sensor uses autocollimation, ie the emitter and receiver beam coincide geometrically and both share a single-eye optic. The advantage is that precise switchpoints for objects entering the beam from any direction are now possible - with a range of up to 12 m. The sensor's integrated polarising filter further improves rejection of spurious incoming light.

Features common to all the sensors in the BOS 26 series are:

p Rotatable M12 connector.

p Precise orientation with two revolutions (720°).

p Clear digit display for the sensitivity and range setting.

p Status LED's visible 360°, contamination display.

p Optimal design against contaminating of the optical face.

p Make/break outputs.

Applications for the BOS 26 series include areas where above-average demands are made on precision, ease of handling, long range and small parts detection, for example in assembly and handling equipment, packaging and conveying technology.

Also included in this series are IR and red light diffuse sensors with background suppression, and an auto-collimation retro-reflective version with red light.
