Motor protection relay with many features

April 2001 Motion Control & Drives

Cutler-Hammer recently introduced the MP-3000 motor protection relay - what it firmly believes is a simple and intelligent choice. This new relay replaces the existing IQ-1000 II electronic relay having all present features in the same cutout design while offering additional extra features, such as:

* Providing excellent motor protection through Intel-I-Trip overload protection - a field-proven algorithm that develops custom trip curves from motor manufacturer data.

* The MP-3000 claims the distinction of being the only protective relay on the market today that meets the standards for UL-1053 (the standard for ground fault sensing and relaying equipment) - which eliminates the need for a separate relay, thereby resulting in panel space and cost savings.

* Date and time stamped information, including an event log and details of trips, alarms and starts is available at the device or via the communications facility, a great help for motor diagnostics.

* Both a 5 A and 1 A version are available.

* A test page in the program mode provides display indication of the discrete input states and testing of the output relays, target LEDs and analog circuit.

* A user-friendly operator interface and display provides quick access to the settings, monitored values, motor history and operational logs. Large LED alphanumeric character display provides easy viewing from any angle in any light. Simple keypad operation provides quick and easy navigation through all settings and stored data.

* The MP-3000 motor protection relay detects motor overloads, short-circuits and abnormal operating conditions.

Some enhanced features include:

* Built-in help program.

* Built-in test mode.

* LED indication.

* Microprocessor-based.

* Self diagnostics.

* Programmable inputs.

* Programmable outputs.

* Realtime clock.
