Butterfly valves

Cooling circuit for industrial water.

In the production facilities of a reputable research institute there are different production sectors independent of each other where special microchips and test wafers for the electronics industry are manufactured. All the facilities are hermetically separated from the outside world in order to prevent the contamination of the wafers and microchips. The heat resulting from the different production processes must be adequately dissipated. Care has to be taken that the cooling water does not cause contamination of the cooling installation and the clean rooms and protection against corrosion must be provided.

Plant technology

The pipework is made of a stainless steel alloy and de-ionised water is used as the heat transfer medium. The heat exchanger is installed on the roof of the building. The pump and distribution station as well as the buffer tanks for warm and cold water are in the basement. The pipework is located in supply channels; all pipe sections, pumps and production sectors are controlled by manually operated valves. Certain process control systems are equipped with motorised control valves.

The right valve technology

For the pump and production sectors the GEMÜ Desponia, DN 65-200 butterfly valves with a cast iron body (LUG), EPDM liner and stainless steel disc, manually gear operated were chosen. In the process control systems the butterfly valves were fitted with a motorised actuator (AUMA SAR 07.5).

Selection of two-port valves: an open and shut case
SMC Corporation South Africa Valves, Actuators & Pump Control
Little consideration is generally given to two-port valves because they are often perceived as simple devices that only open and close to control downstream fluid supply. Although this is mechanically true, choosing the optimal two-port valve for your application can make a big difference, saving space, weight and energy consumption.
