The SPIRA-TROL valve

February 2009 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Extended life and simple maintenance help to achieve an exceptionally low cost of ownership for Spirax Sarco’s SPIRA-TROL two-port general service control valves.

Hard trim materials and a design that diffuses the discharge from the plug and seat and reduces internal flow velocities to minimise erosion have been incorporated to extend valve life. These features reduce substantially the frequency of plant shutdowns needed for valve maintenance.

When required, maintenance of a SPIRA-TROL valve is quick and easy with the self-aligning clamp-in-place internals eliminating the need for special tools: for example, replacing the valve’s plug and seat takes just a few minutes. This achieves considerable cost savings compared to conventional valves with screw-in seats that often seize in place, requiring the valve to be removed from the pipeline, and incurring a lengthy plant shutdown. The simple assembly also helps to ensure that maintenance procedures do not compromise the valve’s high performance.

SPIRA-TROL has been developed using the latest computational fluid dynamics and rapid prototyping to optimise flow paths, flow characteristics and range, enabling precise flow control of many different fluid types used in a wide range of industries.

Several optional trims are available to suit a large variety of applications – from low noise and low flow applications, to high temperature and zero emission requirements.

The range is available as EN versions from DN15 to DN100 sizes for use with electric or pneumatic actuators, positioners and can also be fitted should interfacing with an external control system be required.
