Level Measurement & Control

Low level alarms

December 2008 Level Measurement & Control

The electronic boiler water low level alarm WMS from Afriso-Euro-Index is designed to control water levels in heating systems according to DIN EN 12828.

As soon as the water level falls below a minimum the WMS sounds an alarm and the burner is switched off. The system is also self-checking and does not only detect low water levels in the boiler but also open or short circuit faults within the sensing probe circuitry. The complete WMS consists of the control unit and sensing probe, which are connected by a 2-core signal cable up to 50 m in length.

The control unit, which incorporates all indication and operating elements as well the electronics, is available in two versions: with an internal mains failure lock (after mains failure the control unit must be re-set) or with an external mains failure lock (after mains failure the unit re-sets automatically).

The probe consists of a metallic head with an additional plastic housing and a rod which can be retracted for functional test purposes. The sensing probe is also available in two versions: the DN 20 has an angular housing with two (DN 20) welding sockets; the R2 housing is in the form of a threaded socket with an R2 external thread.

The units are suitable for use in ambient temperatures from 0 to +55°C, and for boiler water temperatures up to 120°C and water pressures of 10 bar. A voltage-free relay contact is provided for remote signalling to event reporting systems, Internet, e-mail, mobile telephones or fax.

WMS requires a 230 V AC supply with a biased switch (NO) option available if remote resetting is required.
