Yaskawa's new micro-drive

December 2008 Motion Control & Drives

Varispeed has released the new J1000 AC from Yaskawa into the South African market. The compact drive provides outstanding quality, reliability and performance, providing the automation industry with a state-of-the-art micro-drive that meets today’s needs and demands.

The design quality has been improved by reduction in the number of parts resulting in increased mean time between failure (MTBF) rates, while increased thermal optimisation reduces the stress on fans and capacitors.

Reduced cost of ownership has been achieved through compact design, side-by-side mounting and the ability to operate a larger motor with the normal duty rating. It also provides over excitation braking, which reduces stopping time without the need for external braking resistors.

The J1000 is available from 0,12 to 5,5 kW. The voltage classes are 200–240 V single-phase and 380–480 V three-phase at 50 or 60 Hz. The J1000 shares a common programming language with its V1000 cousin ensuring quick set-up modes, easy programming and reduced start-up times.

Some standard features of the range include:

* An open loop V/F control with a speed range of 40:1.

* Normal and heavy duty overload ratings.

* Starting torque of 150% at 3 Hz; 5-digit LED keypad.

* Increased vibration resistance from 20 Hz to 50 Hz.

* A swing PWM function to decrease audible motor noise.

Equipped for Modbus communication up to 38,4 Kbps and easy cooling fan replacement; the J1000 finds application in the material handling, food and beverage, fan and pump control, packaging, agricultural machines and industrial washing industries.

It is also CE, UL and cUL approved, as well as being RoHS compliant.
