Elen Enclosures, the South African agent for Sarel, has vast experience in the supply of Ex’e and Ex’i junction boxes for Zones 1 and 2, using the Sarel Thalassa glass fibre reinforced polyester enclosures.

Elen recently submitted Sarel’s Series 54900 stainless steel enclosures to an accredited local testing authority for hazardous area certification. The enclosures obtained approval as Ex ei II T5 (Certificate No. SAEx S/08-212X).

The enclosures are made of grade 304 stainless steel with brushed-finish and a continuous polyurethane gasket to IP66 rating. For Ex applications the wall-mounting holes are sealed with nuts and washers in the approved manner.

The junction boxes are optionally supplied with a 6 mm aluminium gland plate with gland holes drilled, tapped and plugged, grey or blue trunking, 8 mm brass earth stud, and labelling as required. To conform to national regulations the finished junction boxes are then submitted for batch approval and certification. Each junction box is assigned a unique serial number covered by the batch test report.
