Pre-heating and degassing system

October 2008 Temperature Measurement

Spirax Sarco’s CSM-PD pre-heating and degassing unit is designed for use with clean and pure steam generators to pre-heat feed water to 85°C without cold spots or stratification.

The use of a pre-heating and degassing unit for feedwater in clean or pure steam generators solves a number of problems, most notably, reducing the life cycle costs. In these systems chemicals cannot be used for treating or degassing the feedwater and therefore thermo-physical/mechanical systems are used instead. The main reasons for installing a CSM-PD unit as an integral part of a clean or pure steam generation system include:

* Removal of dissolved gases.

* Feedwater pre-heating.

* Feedwater accumulation and storage.

The CSM-PD offers improved pressure and water level stability and reduces the liquid entrainment in the clean steam. It also reduces the effects of thermal shock associated with sudden demands for increased steam output.

Dissolved gases are removed from the feedwater increasing heat transfer efficiency and reducing corrosive effects. This enables the clean steam generator to produce higher quality clean steam and meet the requirements of regulations such as HTM 2031 and EN 285.
