EtherPAD Lite
September 2008
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
Multenet has introduced the EtherPAD Lite ARM9 serial to Ethernet converter to replace the ARM7 version, which has now reached its end of life. Based on the ARM9 processor EtherPAD Lite comes standard with 8 MB of flash, 16 MB of RAM and also supports full Modbus functionality as standard. The interface provides isolation on the Serial (250/600 V) and Ethernet port (1500 V), which effectively protect network devices from power surges and ground loops.
The electronics are housed in a robust aluminium enclosure
The EtherPAD Lite is a versatile, entry-level connectivity device that can be used in standalone, DIN rail or 19" rack-mount applications. It requires an external power supply and has a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet interface and an RS232/RS422/ RS485 serial interface connecting an asynchronous serial device to an Ethernet network.
Additional features include:
* Manual or auto-selectable 10/100 Base-T Ethernet to two software selectable RS232, RS422 or RS485 serial ports.
* Device network connectivity via UDP/IP, TCP/ IP with SNMP MIB II protocol suite.
* Device management via Telnet, BootP/TFTP, Web Browser, SNMP. Windows and Linux configuration Utility.
* Flash memory for convenient software updates.
* Low cost and compact size.
* Modbus Slave Bridge connecting Modbus TCP/UDP to Modbus ASCII/RTU.
* Multiple network connections allowed serial data stream.
* DIN Rail mounting and 19" rack mounting kits available.

Loop signature Part 2-2: Feedforward Control: Part 1
Michael Brown Control Engineering
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
Feedforward control is a powerful technique that can dramatically improve control variance in cases where load changes cause big deviations from setpoint and the actual process dynamics are too slow to allow the feedback controller to operate fast enough to catch these disturbances.
