Level Measurement & Control

Groundwater and watertable level monitoring

March 2001 Level Measurement & Control

In response to industry requirements, instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has launched its FMX 167 Waterpilot for use in all water level measurement applications, particularly in boreholes and deep wells, where the diameter of the access aperture is 22 mm or more.

While claiming to be more compact than its competitors, the FMX 167 offers accuracies of 0,2% FS at an affordable price, and has the ability to reduce temperature influences on level readings by means of integrated temperature compensation circuitry. As an option, a four-wire PT100 can be incorporated in the unit to enable the user to measure water temperature as well.

The FMX 167 uses a ceramic measuring sensor, enclosed in a 316L S/S housing that is robust, has a long-term stability, and employs the hydrostatic measuring principle. Because of the materials used in its construction, the unit conforms to drinking water industry requirements. Being manufactured from ceramic, the measuring cell can also withstand abrasive wear and tear.

With an outer diameter of 22 mm, the FMX 167 has convenient dimensions for insertion into 1" pipes. It is also Atex EeX ia certified for intrinsic safety, as well as CSA and FM, and available in ranges from 10 kPa to 2 MPa (0,1 to 20 bar). Output can be calibrated in bar, psi, mH2O and ftH2O, making the new Waterpilot a good choice for level measurement of groundwater in boreholes and watertable level monitoring.
