Bus cables for various networking systems

March 2001 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Jaycor has introduced a range of bus cables to add to its extensive range of specialised cable products.

The networking of components in process instrumentation and control engineering has increased greatly in recent years. In order to keep the amount of cabling between components as low as possible, the information to be transmitted is sent down bus cable which runs through all the components. Only those components, for which this information is designated, can accept the signal for processing. Bus cables are low-loss data cables of specified characteristic impedance. Their suitability is specific for the given type of bus and they enable high flexibility in operations.

The five ranges offered are:

* L2 bus - a bus system for cell and field area. L2 meets the Profibus specification. It is used for the information exchange between different automation systems. Cable types are available for indoors and outdoors as well as for industrial and drag chain applications.

* A-bus - AS components are connected by this special system cable. With the AS interface the cable assembly from control system to the sensor/actuator is not needed. The AS interface is the fieldbus system that transmits both data and power in one single cable. The cable is suitable for applications in wet surroundings, in machinery and plant construction, as well as in the machine tool and automotive industry.

* E-bus - used for the transmission of bus signals for the intelligent system technique in buildings. The cable can be installed, together with power cables and can be used for control of lighting, heating, ventilation, indicator boards, etc.

* I-bus - Interbus-S is a way to network sensors and actuators with all standard automation instruments. This bus system replaces the parallel cabling for the different signal types in the lower levels of automation technique and collects them in a single bus cable.

* KH-bus - for use in hospitals. This cable is used for computer-based calling systems for patients and transmits power, data and voice.

Jaycor is a major distributor of Belden cable and can offer a wide range of Belden bus cables.
