Connecting I/O to Ethernet

May 2008 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

The new inline bus coupler for Ethernet/IP from Phoenix Contact acts as a link between the I/O level and Ethernet. It is designed to connect up to 63 functional units like digital and analog inputs and outputs, counters, pneumatics and circuit breakers to the network. The 80 mm bus coupler not only enables field communication, but also manages some of the automation tasks with its eight integrated digital inputs and four integrated digital outputs.

The bus coupler offers full inline functionality in process data and PCP operation for up to eight devices, supports the operation of 500 kbd or 2 Mbd modules, and can be easily configured with the help of the Web-based management system.

This generation of bus couplers with on-board I/Os has a three-port switch for simplifying the line structure that supports auto-detection and auto-crossover in full-duplex 10/100 Mbaud operation.

To aid project planning with EtherNet/IP, Phoenix Contact has made an EDS file with product-specific device data available on the Internet at www.select.phoenixcontact.com.
