EXAIR blows away outdated products

March 2008 Pneumatics & Hydraulics

Here is how you can save more than R3000 annually, by replacing one outdated air nozzle!

Old style flat air nozzles deliver com-pressed air through orifices that do not always operate at maximum efficiency. They are also prone to breakage or blocking resulting in harmful noise emissions and dangerous pressure build up. EXAIR's award-winning 50 mm Super Air Nozzle has been engineered to replace these outdated flat nozzles. There are no dangerous holes. EXAIR's patented design is efficient, maintaining a precise amount of air flow through a thin slot. The result is a forceful stream of high velocity, laminar airflow with minimal air consumption and noise. Users can increase or decrease the force of each flat air nozzle using shims for application tuning that eliminates wastage.

According to EXAIR flat nozzles from other manufactures can consume over 30 l/min (a refrigerator sized compressor) and are not adjustable. While a range of flow rates is usually available no provision for adjustment is provided, leaving users guessing as to which would be most suitable. By default, most users feel bigger is better and go with the highest flow rate, wasting compressed air.

With the current electricity situation in South Africa, all responsible companies are conserving electricity by whatever means they are able to. A comparative study by EXAIR revealed the following (note the units have not been metricated to preserve continuity):

* One popular flat nozzle consumes 31 SCFM (Standard Cubic Feet per Minute) at 80 PSIG.

* EXAIR's 2" Super Air Nozzle with 0,015 shim consumes 21,8 SCFM at 80 PSIG; 31 SCFM - 21,8 SCFM = 9,2 SCFM compressed air saving/min.

Most large plants know their cost per 1000 cubic feet of compressed air. If not, 67 cents is a reasonable average to use. (EXAIR)

* SCFM saved x 60 minutes x cost/1000 SCF = Rands saved per hour.

* In this case 9,2 SCFM x 60 x 0,67/1000 SCFM = 37 cents per hour.

* 37 cents per hour x 24 hours = R8,88 per day.

* R8,88 per day x 365 days = R3241,00 per annum. This by replacing just one nozzle.

EXAIR's new High Power Super Air Nozzle produces a 50 mm air stream with a blowing force of 1 kg when mounted 30 cm from the target. The adjustable force is more than three times that of ordinary air nozzles according to the company.

The Super Air Nozzle uses EXAIR's patented technology to maximise entrained airflow while reducing noise levels. A precise amount of air is released through the 0,65 mm air gap that is set with a stainless steel shim positioned between the body and removable cap. The air stream pulls in surrounding air to provide forceful, high velocity laminar airflow. The 83 dBA sound level is below the limits of the OHSA maximum allowable noise exposure standard 29 CFR 1910.95(a). Force and flow are easily adjusted with additional shims. Optional swivel fittings and stay-set flexible hoses to aim the nozzle are available.

The nozzles are available in a zinc aluminium alloy construction suitable for rugged industrial applications and Type 316 stainless steel ideal for corrosive, pharmaceutical and food applications. Applications include ejecting heavy parts and slugs, chip removal, part cleaning, drying and cooling.
