Cooling tower control

March 2008 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

The monitoring and control of cooling tower water is vital to stop the Legionella and other bacteria from thriving. Legionella can contaminate water systems such as cooling towers, central airconditioning systems, hot water systems, showers and spas.

The MTD53 series cooling tower monitor from LTH Electronics offers all the functions for the dosing and control of cooling water. The unit offers conductivity, timed bleed, biocide and inhibitor control to help prevent the build-up of bacteria and Legionella.

The series has a water meter input and is also able to directly measure both conductivity and redox, so dramatically reducing both purchase and installation costs. It is also possible to connect a pH sensor in place of the Redox sensor for controlling the pH level in the cooling tower for acid dosing control. The MTD53 Series is fitted with inputs for Conductivity and Redox or pH sensors to allow very precise control of the bleed and biocide or acid dosing control. An input for a water meter has been included to permit volumetric and proportional dosing and providing a water consumption count. This instrument is also provided with a battery backed realtime clock for the control of dosing and bleed. The MTD53MKII controller comes with flexible control and alarm configuration. An alarm relay is fitted to signal when outside intervention is required.

The unit is constructed of durable polyurethane foam and sealed to IP66. This provides a rugged self-contained instrument with excellent chemical resistance.
