Ethernet to optical fibre media converters

January 2008 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

Advantech's EKI-2541M and EKI-2541S transparently convert Ethernet signals for fibre-optic transmission. The devices are designed to provide (electro magnetic interference) EMI immunity industrial networking applications. The compact outer metal casing is robust for use in harsh environments.

A (link fault pass-through) LFP feature can be enabled via an internal jumper to detect communication failures. When enabled an alert is sent to the application software allowing appropriate recovery procedures to be initiated. Auto detection is also supported eliminating the need for crossover wiring.

Operating temperature range extends from -10 to 60°C and input supply voltage is specified from +12 to 48 V d.c. Surge protection is provided on both the power line and Ethernet ports for (electro static discharge) ESD protection.

The EKI-2541M is an Ethernet to multimode SC type fibre-optic converter, while the EKI-2541S in an Ethernet to single-mode SC type fibre-optic converter.
