Mobile assessment solution for underground use in mines

SA Ex Instruments and PiLog have developed a new mobile solution for underground assessment of miners. PiLog developed software that provides assessors with a mobile, PDA-based tool for underground appraisal in accordance with MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority) requirements. SA Ex Instruments supply the i.roc 623-Ex, an intrinsically safe PDA that has been approved for use in mining.

The mobile application replaces current paper-based systems for conducting the underground assessments. Above ground the data is downloaded to an administrator application where the assessments are evaluated. Report generation is customisable allowing flexible system configuration for specific customer requirements. The PDAs are supplied in a robust package designed to protect against dust, water, corrosion and static.

"For operation in hazardous underground environments we found the ideal solution, the i.roc 623-Ex. It was designed with a mining environment in mind and has MQA approval. Other models in the i.roc range are available for surface applications in the petrochemical industry," says Steven De Becker of SA Ex Instruments.

Thanks to the collaboration between these two local companies, a complete MQA compliant mobile assessment solution can now be offered to the mining industry.
