Phoenix Contact, a manufacturer of safe control systems, has introduced safe function modules that are certified according to PLCopen. The planning, installation, and operation of safety-oriented machines and systems have been integrated into one safety concept. InterbusSafety combines the advantages of a fieldbus with modern safety technology.
The modules, certified by TV Rheinland (a technical inspection authority), enable users to create safety-oriented applications. They reduce the amount of programming work required and increase the transparency of systems. Nineteen safety function modules dedicated to inputs and outputs, the finite state machine, error recognition, and error handling have all been specified by the PLCopen working group. Included in these are the most important safety functions such as emergency shut-off, safety doors, muting, operating mode selector switches and two-hand control.
