Head-mount temperature transmitters

February 2001 Temperature Measurement

Wika Instruments, manufacturer of thermocouples and RTDs, also offers a range of programmable head mount temperature transmitters. This enables the company to supply complete packages at competitive prices. The PRetop transmitters are manufactured by PR Electronics of Denmark and are already well known in South Africa.

The PRetop 5333 is for RTDs and the 5334 for thermocouples only. These units can be programmed using the 5905C programming kit and the software can be freely downloaded from the Internet. This programming kit is unique in that it is possible program the transmitters from as far away as the control room without having to directly access and plug into the transmitter. The programming software has a monitor function allowing the user to analyse the input and output signals and have a display on a realtime graph. Transmitters also have a simulation function to assist in commissioning of the plant and fault finding. Transmitters can be configured for upscale or downscale sensor error. All transmitters are designed for DIN form B sensor head mounting or direct DIN rail mounting with a special fitting.

For those who wish to standardise on one unit then there is a choice of the PRetop 5331 for thermocouples and RTDs. For the more advanced users the PRetop 5335 is available for HART applications.

PRetops feature galvanic isolation as an option and can have absolute accuracies equal or better than 0,05% of span. Transmitters are available with ATEX compliance for hazardous areas and can be placed in Ex zone 0. PRetrans isolated safety barriers are also available so that the signal can be supplied into the safe area. All transmitters are supplied with a five-year performance guarantee.
