Lightweight pneumatic valves

October 2007 Pneumatics & Hydraulics

Certain machine and system applications in a variety of industries require especially light and compact pneumatic valves. Rexroth, locally represented by Tectra Automation, delivers a precise solution through its 'light generation', the latest version of the proven HF valve series. A high flow rate at a narrow width is the hallmark of the series. The HF03 LG is a lighter-weight valve terminal system with a flow rate of up to 700 litres per minute, suitable for use in automation, machine construction, or the automotive industry.

The valve series is perfect for medium-sized and larger actuators which require a low weight, for example, when the valve is mounted directly onto the robot's arm. And the HF03 LG is virtually predestined for applications in which a modular system needs to offer both small dimensions and a high flow rate.

The new valve series has a modular design and can be extended up to 12 valves, one at a time. The identical base plate for all valve functions, the plug-in procedure, and integrated plug connections ensure that valve functions can be changed quickly and easily without having to disassemble the valve terminal system first. This keeps each HF03 model flexible to accommodate later changes. As the HF03 LG can also be used with other standard valves in the HF03 series within one unit, it is suitable for a wide range of applications.

Designed specifically to be lightweight and space-saving, the HF03 LG weighs even less than the HF03 standard version thanks to plastic end plates. Forward-facing pneumatic and electric connections create extra mounting options while keeping installation dimensions compact to suit individual space requirements.

The system is also flexible in its electric connections since it uses the proven electronics found in the HF04 bus module. Whether multiple plug or fieldbus, the connection type can be converted at any time without having to disassemble the valve terminal system, thus doing away with labour and time-intensive conversion work on site.

Compact and sturdy, the HF03 LG conforms to IP 65 protection class for use in harsh environments. All valve functions (2x3/2, 5/2 and 5/3) as well as vacuum ejectors and pressure regulators are available for the valve terminal system. Separate exhaust connections within the valve terminal system enable double pressure operation with different pressures. The valve terminal system can be mounted directly or onto a DIN hat rail.
