Pressure transmitter gets EHEDG certification

August 2007 Pressure Measurement & Control

The hygienic design of product-carrying plant components is an essential prerequisite to avoid microbiological contamination. As part of the overall hygienic concept of a plant, the measuring instruments used must comply with special requirements regarding material, surface quality, process safety, connection engineering and cleaning in the scope of the CIP/SIP process.

The European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) is a consortium of specialists from equipment manufacturers and the food industry, which publishes recommendations regarding the hygienic design of components for food production plants. The group maintains guidelines for all aspects of the hygienic manufacture and assembly of plants and machinery for the production of 'safe' food and similar products. With the help of these guidelines, the gap between theory and practice can be bridged.

The SA-11 pressure transmitter has been certified in accordance with EHEDG by the Technical University of Munich/Weihenstephan. With this, the range of applications for the SA-11 pressure transmitter in hygienic applications has been significantly widened.

Sterile connections such as Varivent, Neumo BioConnect, Neumo Connect S or DIN 11864 ensure safe and reliable installation. In addition, the design of the SA-11 is optimised for high temperatures, such as those in SIP processes. Its IP68 ingress protection provides further security for the installation.

The transmitter has an accuracy of up to 0,25% of span, and delivers a 4-20 mA, 2-wire signal output. There is also an optional CANopen serial interface available.

Through its compliance with hygienic directives the SA-11 is suited for a wide range of aseptic applications in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
