Although conventional sample work-up with a rotary evaporator offers ease of operation, robustness, and flexibility, it is limited to single evaporation or parallel evaporation with the so-called 'spider'. However, a convincing solution for the work-up of multiple samples with a rotary evaporator without cross-contamination has been unknown until now.
The new Büchi Multivapor tackles this problem by heating up to 12 samples separately in cylindrical transparent water baths. "This design principle combines both, sequential flexible evaporation of single samples, and parallel evaporation of multiple samples with the same assembly," says Büchi. When this system is used in combination with the Rotavapor a unique increase in functionality is observed. In the absence of a Rotavapor a standalone arrangement provides a comprehensive, personal alternative. This standalone set-up involves a peripheral vacuum source with controller.
Büchi Multivapor avoids cross-contamination of multiple simultaneous samples
The Multivapor has 12 transparent glass cylinders with up to 30 ml working volume offering visible processing throughout the evaporation process. Boiling retardation is prevented by a vigorous vortex induced by a thorough horizontal orbital movement of the heating plate. A vacuum manifold with individual sample connection conducts the vapour to the condenser assembly of the rotary evaporator. As each sample is independently connected to the vacuum cover, no cross-contamination occurs. Evaporation takes place under vacuum, in accordance with ISO 14000.
