To bed, perchance to rest?
July 2007
News
Industry participants and engineering companies such as Schneider Electric, Clipsal, Thyssenkrupp Engineering and SKF have taken up the challenge to participate in the Round Table bed race of 2007!
They are challenging all other companies to race against them, not to mention try to outdo them in terms of décor for the beds!
This event, which this year takes place on 2 September, has become a major date in the corporate calendar in Gauteng. Companies can book as many beds as they want. They pay an entrance fee which entitles them to a hospital bed supplied by Round Table. They must then decorate the bed in whatever fashion they wish and with a team of five members race the bed around the circuit.
Says Round Table Midrand 63 chairman, Hugh Fraser: "the Round Table Bed Race was started in 1995 with 23 teams participating. The purpose of the project is to get hospital beds into institutes for the needy and since that first race, the Round Table in Midrand (known as Midrand 253) has managed to raise over R2-million and has donated 650 beds to needy institutes.
"This is a fun day with entertainment for the whole family and the move to the Zwartkops Raceway venue has opened up a whole new format for the race. The sooner you book, the better your position on the grid!"
