Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Improvement demanded by food and beverage markets

March 2007 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

First launched in the 1930s, the Spirax-Sarco ball float trap has grown into one of the most advanced ranges of ball float steam traps available. Continuously rejuvenated, it is the first choice for the vast majority of process applications, especially where instantaneous removal of condensate is required.

The trap has the ability to provide shut-off at all pressures and to react immediately to changes in load and pressure.

Robust and reliable, the main valve and float assembly is resistant to waterhammer and the unique thermostatic capsule type air vent is resistant to corrosion. The trap has a long life and requires minimal maintenance.

The FTS14 is a 316 stainless steel version of the FT14 float thermostatic steam trap and may be used in exactly the same applications. However it is particularly suitable for the drainage of filtered steam systems, and certain clean steam systems.

An improvement to the previous product has been developed.

Because the trap cover can be removed and rotated, the FTS14 is available with horizontal connections with flow from left to right; right to left; and now, vertically upwards and vertically downwards.

The body and cover are 316 stainless steel, and the trap will easily tolerate frequent washdowns, as demanded in many food and beverage factories.

Benefits include:

* 316 austenitic stainless steel body: suitable for filtered steam systems and some clean steam systems where traditional materials might corrode/erode.

* Aesthetically pleasing: fits in with all stainless steel piping systems.

* Investment casting: high quality finish.

* Stainless steel internals same as for FT14: reliable operation with existing components.

* Trap cover can be rotated: choice of flow directions with single trap; easier installation with reduced costs and can replace existing bucket traps.

* Assured market compatibility: developed with the assistance of Axair, Heinz, Astra Zeneca, TetraPack, Warner Lambert Healthcare and others.

An optional internal strainer screen ensures protection of internals, minimising breakdowns with no need to buy or fit a strainer.
