The new Convir DL series from Calex Electronics is a range of high temperature fast response non-contact infrared temperature switches. They are designed for use in the detection of hot metal parts, or as part of a counting or positioning process. Typical applications include billet positioning in steel forging and rolling, positioning and counting of gobs in glass production, and monitoring the opening and closing of furnace and oven doors.
Two models are available in this series. The DL-14 has a temperature range of 400 to 1400°C and measures in the spectral range 0,8 to 1,8 μm. Model DL-15 measures at 0,8 to 1,05 μm and has a temperature range of 700 to 1500°C.
Both DL models measure with an accuracy of up to 0,75% of reading, and offer high repeatability of better than 0,3%. They have a fast response time of just 1 ms and provide a transistor output of 20 V d.c. at a maximum of 30 mA.
The switching temperature of the DL series can be easily adjusted via a potentiometer at the rear of the housing.
Each model has a narrow 66:1 field of view, allowing small or distant targets to be monitored. An LED pilot light is also provided on all models to help ensure they are accurately aligned with their target.
The DL series are made of stainless steel and are sealed to IP65. They can operate in ambient temperatures up to 50°C without the need for cooling, and in higher temperatures with optional air and water-cooled housings.

Temperature Measurement
For successful paint cure, irrespective of the paint chemistry being used, there is a critical need to measure and control the temperature of the car body as it travels through the oven. Today, paint ovens are controlled in a sophisticated fashion via thermocouples located in each zone to give constant feedback on the ambient temperature.
