Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Website allows easy selection of valves and actuators

January 2001 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

An updated version of Honeywell's sizing and selection software for HVAC control valves and compatible actuators is now available free on Honeywell's website www.honeywell.com/building/components under the 'What's New' section.

The enhanced software features:

* French, Italian, German and Spanish languages in the standard database.

* Improvements in the dialogue boxes based on feedback from users.

* A design upgrade using Microsoft Access Version 7.0, which eliminates minor operating system bugs that caused problems on PCs with Access 2.0 installed.

The software includes an on-line catalogue of nearly 500 valves and more than 100 actuators available from Honeywell. Its ease of use makes an instruction manual unnecessary. It is a time-saver whether one valve is needed for a small job or hundreds of valves and actuators are needed for a major project.

The user selects the language of preference, and whether they want to use US or European products. From there, there is a choice of medium (water, steam or glycol) flow rate and pressure drop from drop-down lists, and the software calculates the coefficient of velocity (Cv). Next, pointing-and-clicking to specify two-way or three-way valves, and selections are made from the from the View Valves database. If the Cv is already known, the user can go directly to View Valves to make choices. Filters options, such as all two-way one-inch valves, assist in speeding up the choices.

Choosing actuators is as simple. First the user selects 'View actuators', then the types (spring return or non-spring return), the power supply and the control. The software automatically compiles a list of compatible actuators and adds the selections to users project's Valve Schedule.

Dual North American and European databases allow sizing and selection using either US or European valve and actuator products, with US or metric measurements. The standard database also provides English, French, Italian, German and Spanish languages to select from; additional languages can be added by translating the user-interface words.
