Flowmeter for steam energy management

Flow Measurement & Control
Spirax-Sarco's direct in-line variable area (DIVA) flowmeter is an ideal system for steam energy management schemes. It operates on the well-established spring loaded variable area (SLVA) principle, where the area of an annular orifice is continuously varied by a precision shaped moving cone. This cone is free to move axially against the resistance of a spring.
However, unlike other SLVA flowmeters, the DIVA does not rely on the measurement of differential pressure drop across the flowmeter to calculate flow, measuring instead the force caused by the deflection of the cone via a series of high quality strain gauges. The higher the flow of steam, the greater the force. This removes the need for expensive differential pressure transmitters, reducing installation costs and potential problems.
DIVA provides high turndown with high system accuracy, high repeatability, and gives accurate readings over a wide range of flows. Its in-built density compensation and error elimination feature ensure the user of an accurate mass flow.
The unit is low cost and has no need for additional equipment or differential pressure transmitters, and with no impulse lines, maintenance, installation costs and potential problems are also reduced.
DIVA is 4-20 mA loop powered, has a compact wafer design and offers simple digital commissioning via an integral display.

Loop signature 29: Averaging or surge level control
Editor's Choice Flow Measurement & Control
There are many processes where it is undesirable for the load to suddenly change quickly, for example in the paper industry. Examples of level control have involved reasonably fast tuning. An example of a level loop tuned this way and responding to a step change in setpoint is given.
