Corrosion resistant butterfly valves

March 2006 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Tyco Valves & Controls, a leader in the design and manufacture of corrosion resistant valves, has extended its range of Neotecha NeoSeal butterfly valves to include a new series of TFM valve seats and linings for use in demanding and aggressive chemical applications.

With the introduction of the new TFM seats, Tyco is now believed to offer the most advanced series of corrosion resistant butterfly valves in the world. Promising high performance with aggressive substances such as hydrochloric acid, chlorine and hydrofluoric acid.

Driven by breakthroughs in resin technology, Tyco Valves & Controls successfully developed a method for producing valve seats in TFM, a modified polytetrafluoroethylene, which significantly exceeds the chemical, mechanical, physical and endurance properties of conventional PFA or PTFE lining materials.

The secret to TFM's success is its dense polymer structure - much denser than PTFE or PFA. This results in low permeability, ensuring suitability for use with highly corrosive substances. The low permeability of TFM also promises a much longer life time during high cycle and control applications.

Conventional PTFE has a tendency to suffer from 'cold flow' when the material flows to areas where there is less mechanical compression, eventually causing the seal to fail. A key advantage of TFM's dense polymer structure is that it is far less sensitive to cold flow or material deformation. This ensures an extensive operating life span, even at high temperatures and pressures. A conductive version of the Neotecha NeoSeal TFM seat is also available. This is fully FDA compliant and can also be used in ATEX applications.
