Temperature Measurement

Reliable temperature reading in tough places

March 2006 Temperature Measurement

Coal gassifiers are thermal reactors which convert coal into gaseous hydrocarbon compounds. Catalytic crackers are thermal reactors which break long chains of hydrogen carbon molecules. These thermal reactors break long chains of hydrogen carbon molecules into shorter more desirable hydrogen carbon molecules. These thermal reactors operate under high pressure and temperature creating impossible conditions for thermocouples to survive for an extended period of time. Previous generations of infrared temperature sensors were also ineffective because the build up of contamination on the viewport windows resulted in unreliable and inaccurate temperature measurements. However, with Williamson's new high-performance dual-wavelength temperature sensors, it is now possible to obtain accurate temperature measurements for process control through windows with significant contamination build-up.

The FiberView 9100 with a simple flange mount assembly is the recommended sensor for this application. This fibre-optic dual-wavelength sensor provides impressive results with accurate and reliable temperature measurements for effective process control with a system that is easy to install and maintain. Specific sensor features include:

* A unique single detector design, which provides a higher signal dilution factor that enables the sensors to out-perform other ratio sensors. Specifically, this feature enables the sensors to operate properly when the target energy signal is diluted over 99,97% by contamination on the viewport.

* A fibre-optic design that provides greater flexibility to align the sensor and mount the electronics in a remote location.

* A simple flange mount that features an option to mount multiple sensors per viewport.

* For applications where visual verification of the sensor alignment is required, the Tempmatic 8100 dual-wavelength sensor is also available with visual (SLR) sighting.
