The Festo Control Techno Tour aims to enhance learning, offer a unique networking experience and allow customers and interested parties to observe technology in action and gain a better understanding of the pneumatics and automation arenas.

This is the fourth year that Festo has hosted the tour, which typically includes a slice of German culture and sightseeing, tours of German manufacturing plants, and a visit to the Hannover Messe. This year's itinerary includes a tour of Festo's headquarters in Esslingen-Berkheim, a factory visit to two automotive manufacturing giants, a visit to the oldest German city, Trier, and three days at the Hannover Fair. Hannover Messe 2006 represents a combination of 10 leading international flagship shows. Festo will be participating in the factory automation section that showcases the industrial convergence of process, production and building automation.

In manufacturing, the dividing line between automation technology and IT is becoming increasingly blurred. The possibilities opened up by worldwide communication via the Internet, eg, for remote diagnostics and maintenance, are fast becoming an integral part of modern automation solutions. This in turn is leading to the creation of comprehensive data management systems, designed to provide further efficiency gains in plant operation.

Factory Automation highlights pioneering developments for the integration of automated production systems - with the emphasis on end-to-end solutions sourced from a single engineering partner. Only at Hannover can the visitor experience complete value chains and swap information with experts from a complete spectrum of industrial sectors.

The 2005 Hannover Messe saw Festo displaying its comprehensive range of high-speed solutions, services, and condition monitoring capabilities. Several South African delegates participated in this tour.

Festo Techno Tour delegate, Ronnie Doyle of Techron Systems says: "It was excellent. What really impressed me was the incredible range of technology, insight and experience one is exposed to on this tour. I would strongly recommend it to any fellow professionals who are interested in discovering more about the latest trends shaping the future of hydraulics and pneumatics."
