Telco (distributed by Gail Norton Instrumentation) offers a good selection of high-performance infrared detection devices for automatic door applications. The devices are well suited to uses such as lift doors, automatic entrance doors for pedestrians and industrial doors for vehicles, etc.
The system comprises a single, or multibeam, transmitter and receiver unit, which are mounted opposite each other at the entrance to the door. If the beam between transmitter and receiver is interrupted, the doors will instantly re-open, without having to come into contact with persons or vehicles.

Systems are available as complete, self-contained arrangements, consisting of the transmitter receiver for direct control of the door - or as a remote system, where the transmitter and receiver are powered and monitored by separate systems. The distance between detectors can be as far as 40 m, depending on the choice of sensor, and the application. The systems are able to reject spurious light input as high as 100 000 lux, depending on the model.
