New microdrives said to raise benchmark

February 2006 Motion Control & Drives

The launch of the Hitachi SJ200 series is believed to have Elquip Solutions, a Hitachi drives and automation company, setting a new benchmark standard for microdrives.

The SJ200 is the first product to feature Hitachi's new iSLV (intelligent sensorless vector control) technology for significantly improved performance. It is compact and powerful, without compromising on ease of use. The differentiating factor for the new SJ200 is that the long and complicated auto-tuning process usually required for iSLVs is no longer necessary to achieve optimal performance.

Gustav Verster, Elquip Solutions' Technical sales manager explains: "Straight out of the box, the SJ200 will provide high starting of 200% torque or greater at 1 Hz without motor tuning. The drive also provides an advanced over-current trip avoidance function for acceleration, and over-voltage trip avoidance for deceleration." Eliminating these typical nuisance trips means improved system reliability, and ultimately increased machine availability.

Hitachi's SJ200 have advanced the standards for microdrives by including PID control, while embedded PLC functionality enables output terminals to be assigned logic functions, and on and off delay times to be set for each output terminal. The SJ200 also provides analog setpoint maths functions, providing a more flexible system design.

Other useful features of the SJ200 include:

* Built-in EMC filter.

* Side-by-side mounting capability.

* Digital keypad that can be removed and remotely mounted.

* Removable terminal connector for reduced wiring effort and simplified field maintenance.

The SJ200 is aligned to a wide range of global standards, including CE, UL, c-UL and c-Tick, allowing it to be used anywhere in the world.
