Mitech has just received a repeat order for a second 150 mm choke valve to be used on an unmanned platform off the English coast. The valve is made of WCB and has a pressure rating of ASME 1500#. The trim is a 'combo' design - ZZ multistage at the bottom and single stage at the top of the stroke. Due to the presence of sand in the fluid stream the trim is manufactured from tungsten carbide for wear resistance. (Choke valves are used to reduce the pressure of hydrocarbon gas or condensate at well heads prior to being sent to a processing plant.)
Mitech manufactured the first valve two years ago soon after it received its PED approval rating from TUV. Without this quality standard it is not possible to export valves to Europe. Although the strong value of the Rand makes exports difficult at the present time, Mitech is continuing to do business overseas by concentrating on the high technology niche market of severe service control valves.
