Data cables with easy marking system

December 2005 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Lapp Cable is offering DIN EN 61984 connectors that are suitable for all current data cables. Its clamp can accommodate cables from 7 to 13,5 mm diameter. Parts count is low and the inserts support pin and socket contacts. Labelling/marking is quick and easy thanks to the integrated in-the-field system.

Exchangeable coloured keying rings assist in cable identification and all housings feature exchangeable keying. Assembly may be accomplished by inserting the insert from the front to the rear of the connector.

Circon M23 connectors offer a current handling capability of up to 7 A for 1 mm2 contacts, and the inter-pin voltage ratings are 9-poles: 150 V, 12-poles: 100 V, 16-poles: 100 V and 17-poles: 50 V, with the impulse rating being 800 V. Over voltage category is 3 and Pollution certification is degree 3 (according to DIN EN 61984-2002,6.19.2.2) Conductor cross sections for crimped 1 mm contacts are 0,14 to 1 mm2 (18-24 AWG) - and the soldered contacts allow for anything up to 1 mm2.

The connectors will maintain specification for 100 mating cycles within the -25°C to +125°C temperature range. Dust and water protection 10 hours/1 m according to IP 68. The marking system offers the options of coloured marking clips or individual markable labels. The Dymo marking system provides easy handling. The labels cannot be erased or lost.

Connectors include integrated EMC screens and are corrosion-tested for use in a rough environment.

They are vibration tested ensuring that they are suitable for use with electric drives and moving parts.

The Circon LS1 connectors are specified for 7 A with 1 mm2 contacts, and 22 A with 2 mm2 contacts. 1 mm contacts are rated at 250 V, 2 mm contacts: 630 V. The impulse rated voltage is 4 kV and 6 kV for the 1 mm and 2 mm contacts, respectively. These connectors are certified to maintain specification over 500 mating cycles.
