Valve solves problems with protective pipe linings

Valves, Actuators & Pump Control
Tyco Valves & Controls, a business unit of Tyco Flow Control, has introduced an innovative new wide-bodied butterfly valve to overcome the problems commonly experienced with valve operation as a result of thick, protective pipe linings.
The new wide-bodied valve extends Tyco's comprehensive NeoSeal range, comprising high integrity, PTFE lined butterfly valves designed to operate in the most demanding chemical environments. The wide-bodied valves are available in sizes from DN 80 to DN 600, and are manufactured in accordance with EN588-2, series 16.
Tyco has responded to a growing trend amongst chemical plant managers to extend the operational life of pipework involving corrosive process materials by using a thick, protective lining. The thicker linings reduce the internal pipe diameter, which can cause the pipe lining to interfere with the valve disc during operation.
A common solution to overcome the problem is to add spool pieces to either side of the valve, thereby widening the face-to-face dimensions of the valve, and preventing the disc from interfering with the pipe lining. However, this can be costly in terms of materials and installation, and it also increases the number of potential leak paths from the valve.
Tyco's new wide-bodied NeoSeal butterfly valve features extended face-to-face dimensions, preventing any problems with the operation of the disc. Because the valve is manufactured as a single unit, it can be fitted directly to the pipe flanges without the need for additional spools. This provides a simple yet superior solution, and eliminates the risk of leakage.
Tyco's NeoSeal range features a superior stem seal design, ensuring ultimate resistance against corrosion. An elastomer backing of the PTFE lining ensures a tight seating of the disc, and the discs are available in a wide range of corrosion resistant materials to satisfy customer requirements.
The valve lining and the disc are the only parts in contact with the process media and are moulded and machined to close tolerances, providing low torque, reduced stress and deformation during opening and closing, eliminating the possibility of tearing and bunching.
