Residual carbon analyser

Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The RCA 2000 residual carbon analyser from M&W Asketeknik assists the control of coal-fired power plants by improving combustion efficiency and coal mill performance. Operators are provided with vital realtime information regarding the combustion efficiency through continuous monitoring of the unburned carbon content in the fly ash.
This reliable, low maintenance on-line monitoring instrument measures the value of unburned carbon in the fly ash every 3 to 15 minutes, depending on the load of the boiler. Through a constant control of these online measurements, the operator can quickly make the necessary adjustments to the combustion process, securing a more complete combustion of the coal, thereby reducing the environmental impact and the amount of fuel required.
Any increase in the amount of unburned carbon in the fly ash is immediately observed by the operator and makes it possible to advise on any necessary control and adjustment that is required. An increase in carbon content could indicate that the mill performance has decreased, while a constant value of unburned carbon, indicates that no adjustments are required. This allows the power plant to operate for longer periods without interruption.
Part of the flue gas is extracted isokinetically by the sampling pipe using the pressure difference generated by the ejector. The fly ash is separated from the flue gas in the cyclone and the clean gas flows back to the flue gas duct through the ejector. The fly ash is then collected in the measuring unit and when full, measurement of the sample is executed. The result is processed by a microprocessor and sent to the control unit. The instrument is then emptied and cleaned and a new measuring cycle starts automatically. M&W Asketeknik is represented locally by OEN Enterprises.
