New technology helps with valve design

Valves, Actuators & Pump Control
Mitech is now making use of engineering fluid dynamics (EFD) software to assist with the design of its special control valves.
One example of the use of this technique is for a special valve recently supplied by Mitech designed to control the addition of hot gas into a stream of cooler gas. Working at 950°C and 2,5 MPa the valve consists of five interconnected blades manufactured from special steel imported from Haynes in America, in conjunction with locally produced ceramic components.
The EFD package was used to predict the temperatures of the combined flow at various points of the vessel downstream from the valve and to assist with the design of the diffuser.
The software is also being used to optimise the design of the high pressure drop ED disk stack trims used by Mitech in their globe and angle valves to eliminate cavitation on liquids applications and reduce noise on gas and vapour services.
