ABB South Africa, part of the leading power and automation technology group, recently announced the launch of the new release of its Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA. "The new functional extensions in the system will enable customers to achieve dramatic productivity and operational improvements," says Edwin Bauer, ABB South Africa's manager for Control Instrumentation and Analytical.

These extensions include a flexible and scalable SIS (safety instrumented system) for reduced risk to personnel, equipment and environment; Manufacturing Management to improve batch production efficiency; Real-Time Production Intelligence for monitoring and improving overall equipment efficiency; and numerous other engineering and device management tools and enhancements.

"These functional extensions are part of our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with even more opportunity to continuously improve their operational efficiency and overall productivity and profitability," says Bauer.

ABB's System 800xA is part of the company's award winning suite of integrated Industrial IT solutions, introduced four years ago. These additional functionalities make the total process automation solutions more complete to address the challenges that automation customers face in today's global marketplace. ABB's product strategy is for evolution through enhancement to protect customer investment. Since introducing the 800xA extended version a year ago, ABB has sold more than 600 of these systems to customers in a wide variety of process industries.
