New scada conversion tool

June 2005 SCADA/HMI

One of the world's largest independent automation software providers, Citect, is offering its Switch2Citect, a conversion tool for scada customers that allows them to upgrade from one or multiple legacy systems to Citectscada with minimal configuration costs, time and effort. Switch2Citect provides upgrades from four popular legacy brands and the company has plans to release more upgrade paths in the near future.

"Manufacturers know that to remain competitive, they must upgrade their HMI/scada system to meet the challenges of collaborative production, security and realtime performance management. This is why they seek tools that drastically shorten the time and cost of upgrading while allowing them to reap the benefits of these new technologies as quickly as possible," said Craig Resnick, ARC Advisory group research director.

With Switch2Citect, graphics and tag databases can be easily converted to a Citectscada system. Configuration time of graphical displays is reduced from days to hours or minutes. This allows customers who are currently considering upgrading their existing system, to switch to Citectscada at a fraction of what it would have cost before the release of Switch2Citect.

"Manufacturers either continuously upgrade their HMI/scada software to the latest release or wait and replace their HMI/scada software after about five years", said Stephen Flannigan, corporate marketing manager, Citect.

"The longer a manufacturer waits before upgrading its HMI/scada software the less benefit it will deliver to the business and the more difficult it may be to upgrade. They need to think seriously about the future of their systems to remain competitive in the long term. Choosing a reputable company that is worldwide, offers local support, has a clear roadmap and committed resources, while at the same time minimising the cost to upgrade their HMI/scada system, will drastically reduce their risk", said Flannigan.

The new tool will allow customers to take advantage of the world-class reliability, flexibility and scalability of Citectscada as well as the features available in the new V6 release, which offers the unique 'Process Analyst', an integrated alarm and trend viewer and a fully functional Web Client. Taking advantage of latest Microsoft technologies, switching to Citectscada also allows customers to upgrade their operating systems. Existing Citect customers can simply use the automatic upgrades available in the Citectscada product.
