The IB IL RS485/422-PRO Inline module from Phoenix Contact is designed for use within a station forming part of the Inline automation system. The communication module features a serial input and output channel in either an RS485 or 422 configuration. Commercially available peripheral devices with the appropriate interfaces such as scales, printers or scanners can thus be connected easily to a Fieldbus system.
The module interface data is communicated within the Fieldbus via the process data channel. 11 bytes of data can be written and read in full duplex in a single bus cycle. The transfer rate is between 9600 and 38 400 baud, depending on the setting. This means that, through pure process data communication, faster transfer times can be achieved with small volumes of data.
Depending on the operating type, the useful data is stored in a buffer before being retrieved by the control unit or peripheral device. Four kilobyte receiving and one kilobyte sending buffers are available for this purpose. The configuration is handled via a process data byte, known as the status and control byte. This is where telegram parameters, various protocol types and the transfer rate can be set. The device is supplied with inline connecting plugs and small labelling tags.
