Single-mode fibre interface modules

May 2005 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

The new Factory Line FL IF 2FX SM SC-D two-port interface modules from Phoenix Contact (which can be used with the modular managed switch) allows single-mode glass fibre lines of up to 36 km in length.

Single-mode fibres are used in traffic engineering, such as railway and airport technology, as well as in other outdoor applications. The modular managed switch (MMS) eliminates the need for separate media converters in these applications through the use of pluggable, single-mode glass fibre interfaces. This saves both space and cost: a glass-fibre port costs 30% less than the combination of a switch with a TX port and media converters.

The MMS from Phoenix Contact is a powerful, management-capable switch platform that offers SNMP (simple network management Protocol) and an integrated Web server for configuration and diagnostic purposes.
