Noiseless, self-adjusting pulse radar probes
February 2005
Level Measurement & Control
GPC is now producing low-cost pulse radar probes suitable for 15 m and 30 m. The noise-immune design ensures that only measurements activated by echoes returning from wanted targets are counted. The radar probe tailors the microwave pulse width and amplitude for the target distance and its reflection properties. The receiver changes its sensitivity with the amplitude of received echoes. The shapes of the received echoes are analysed and tank wall echoes, echoes from standpipes and other obstructions are ignored.
These features allow this radar to track any wanted target from the top of the rod antenna down to the bottom of any shape tank regardless of prevailing environment conditions. Product build-up on the rod antenna does not degrade the performance of the radar probe. Resonator and transceiver are correctly matched, this eliminates problems when a target is close to the antenna and makes for optimum performance of the radar.
The user interface of the radar is the same as GPC's ultrasonic probes - which is simple and does not require any manuals. Communication software is also the same as for ultrasonic and microwave probes. This allows a user to use radar and ultrasonic probes in the same network.
