Increased accuracy on flue gas analysers

Testo is offering a new CO2 measurement cell for its 350M/XL portable industrial flue gas analysers. This cell increases accuracy by using infrared light absorption instead of the traditional combined calculation of O2 and CO values.

Until now, CO2 has been calculated by using the measured O2 and CO values and the fuel parameters. However, this calculation is insufficiently accurate for certain industrial applications and emission measurements where a high certainty is required.

As a result, Testo has recently developed a dual sensor infrared measurement cell, which is based on the principle of infrared light absorption. Through the inclusion of a reference sensor and the use of a sapphire window, this cell will have a long-term stability and greater accuracy. Temperature and pressure variations are compensated and there are no electrochemical compounds that would necessitate frequent cell changes.

These cells are expected to operate for between 5 and 10 years, depending on the application and dust content of the flue gas. The measurement range is 0 to 50 Vol % CO2. Higher concentrations can be measured but with decreased accuracy.

Additionally, testo has released a kit through which these new cells can be retrofitted into existing testo 350M/XL analysers by qualified service centres. The kit also includes a CO2 absorption filter, useable to field-calibrate the zero point frequently if desired.
