To make the 'medicine go down' at the largest pharmaceutical plant in the world, flow measurement of chilled, process and effluent water, steam and air flows are all carried out using Retractable Torbar Averaging Pitot Tubes fitted with retraction gearbox assemblies.
Torbar HOT-TAP pitots use specially designed gearboxes within purpose machined solid stainless steel blocks to ensure smooth action of the retraction assembly. The assemblies comprise two pairs of precision crossed-axis stainless steel/aluminium bronze helical gear sets driving through a further pair of M12 lead screws. The assemblies were designed in conjunction with Davall Gears and provide high accuracy of positioning with smooth transition of insertion and retraction. Davall has over 100 years of experience in gear component design and manufacturing experience specialising in high performance custom gears.
Retractable type Torbars have pressure chamber and dual drawbolts manufactured entirely of stainless steel with graphite ribbon or Teflon gland packing, with the quality gearbox assembly acting on the drawbolts giving industry leading performance.
For one of the largest projects of its type undertaken by Torbar, over 50 units have been supplied to the site in the Rupublic of Ireland.
