Afriwater set to be a big drop in the ocean

November 2004 News

Afriwater 2005 looks set to be a sure-fire success - if the sale of floor space is anything to go by. Scheduled to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre between 10 and 12 August 2005, with just under a year to go, space on the exhibition is already 50% sold. 46 exhibitors have already signed up, covering a total 1188 m2 in floor area.

Those organisations and companies already committed to exhibiting at the show include, amongst others, some of the biggest names in the water business. BiWater; BEP Bestobell; the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry; Erwat; Howden Pumps/ Denorco; Johannesburg Water; Magalies Water; Merck; NCP Chlorchem; Radio Detection; Rand Water; Saint-Gobain Pipelines; Siemens; Sud-Chemie; TCTA (Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority); Umgeni Water; and WISA will all be there. By 22 September all the major sponsorships on the Afriwater exhibition had been sold, with the visitor registration sponsorship the only one remaining.

In the 10 years since its inception in 1994, Afriwater has grown to become the largest water, waste and environmental technology exhibition of its kind in South Africa. Formerly collocated with Afribuild, the exhibition is now big enough to standalone and, with three conferences running alongside it next year (The IWA Diffuse Pollution Specialist Conference, The Sustainable Management of Residues Emanating from Water & Wastewater Treatment Conference, and The IWA Regional Conference), Afriwater 2005 is expected to be the biggest exhibition of its kind in Africa to date and to draw in excess of 4000 local, African and international visitors. Lynn Kennedy, Director of exhibition organisers Exhibitions for Africa, had the following to say about the 2005 show: "Water is one of today's greatest business opportunities. And in Africa in particular, Government targets are putting the pressure on for water delivery and access to all. Now more than ever, Afriwater is perfectly placed to enable those businesses in the industry to tap into these opportunities whilst facilitating the progress of our country and continent at the same time." With the primary aim of confronting the water industry's challenges and promoting and encouraging the drive towards sustainable and affordable fresh water and sanitation management, protection and delivery to all, Afriwater will showcase best practices, achievements, innovative ideas and solutions emerging within the industry. In so doing, this forum will certainly go a good way to helping South Africa confront and tackle one of its greatest challenges - that of ensuring that everyone has access to water for their personal needs, to the use of water for productive purposes, and to the benefits of water use, and that water resources are managed and used to provide for the needs of this generation and of those to come.
